How to Apply
National Unified Admission
Admission to SCST for current high school graduates is conducted through the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE), in accordance with national and provincial regulations.
Key policies include:
1. Score-Based Application Review
Provincial admissions offices submit candidate files to SCST based on local enrollment quotas and predetermined file submission ratios. Applicants are ranked by total score, including officially recognized bonus points. SCST determines submission ratios per province, typically not exceeding 120% for sequential preference systems and 105% for parallel preference systems.
2. No Score Gaps Between Majors
SCST does not apply score differentials between majors. Once files are submitted, admissions are determined by overall score ranking and stated major preferences.
3. Bonus Points Policy
SCST recognizes bonus points awarded by the Ministry of Education and provincial authorities. In general, only the highest applicable bonus item is accepted (maximum 20 points), which is added to the total score for major placement purposes.
4. Major Adjustment Policy
Applicants who meet SCST’s minimum admission score but do not qualify for any of their selected majors may be reassigned to available programs—only if they have agreed to accept major adjustments. Those who opt out of adjustments will not be admitted.
5. Tie-Breaking Rules
In the event of identical total scores, subject scores are compared in the following order:
- Liberal Arts Track: Chinese → Foreign Language → Mathematics
- Science Track: Mathematics → Foreign Language → Chinese
- Reformed Curriculum Provinces (“3+1+2” system): Chinese → Mathematics → Foreign Language
6. Supplemental Admissions (First Round Shortfall)
If first-round admissions fall short, SCST may consider applicants who did not select SCST as their first choice: For parallel preference batches, additional files may be submitted up to 100% of the remaining quota. For non-parallel batches, the limit may increase to 120%. If shortfalls persist, SCST may redistribute seats to other provinces with stronger applicant pools.
7. Special Regulations for Reform Provinces
For provinces under curriculum reform, SCST strictly adheres to local admissions policies and guidelines.
8. Admissions for Art Programs
Applicants for art-related majors must pass the provincial unified art examination (fine arts/design). Those whose cultural exam scores meet the minimum provincial threshold are ranked by their combined score (cultural + art test) and admitted based on score and preference. Tie-breakers are resolved according to local regulations.
Shanghai Independent Admission
For Current High School Graduates
Application to SCST follows national and Shanghai municipal regulations for higher vocational college admissions. Applicants must submit the following materials:
- An initial college application preference
- General High School Academic Proficiency Qualification Examination Results
- Career Adaptability Assessment
- Art Sketch Score (for Art Program applicants only)
Supplementary Admission: If participating in supplementary admissions, applicants will be ranked by total admission score, calculated as the converted academic proficiency exam score plus the school-organized test score (for art majors, the first school test score is used). Admissions are granted from highest to lowest score. In the case of tied scores, priority is given to the school test score, followed by the comprehensive quality evaluation.
For Students from Secondary Vocational Schools
Applicants must submit the following materials:
- An initial college application preference
- Academic transcript (Chinese, Mathematics, and English)
- Vocational Skills Test (also known as the Quality Skills Test)
- Art Sketch Score (for Art Program applicants only)
Admission is based on score ranking. For general programs: admissions are based on combined scores from academic exams and vocational skills tests. For art programs: candidates must score at least 60 in sketching, and are ranked by total score (academic + sketch). In case of tied scores: priority is given to vocational skills scores or academic subject scores, followed by comprehensive quality evaluation.
For Other Qualified Applicants Without Full Academic Exam Scores
Applicants must submit the following materials:
- An initial college application preference
- Unified entrance examination results
- Vocational Skills Test (also known as the Quality Skills Test)
Admission is based on score ranking. General programs: selection is based on total score from academic and vocational exams. Art programs: a minimum of 60 is required in sketching, and selection is based on combined score. Tie-breaking rules are the same: vocational/academic subject scores are compared, followed by comprehensive evaluation.
