Welcome Message from Professor Song Guoli
Dear new students,
Welcome to Shanghai College of Science and Technology and the beginning of your new life—a new chapter filled with hope and opportunity. I’m Professor Song Guoli, and on your very first day on campus, I’d like to share three messages with you:
- Treasure Today, Believe in the Future
Your “new life” carries the hopes of your parents, your teachers, and the best wishes of your friends. Great accomplishments can come from anywhere—here at Shanghai Polytechnic Institute, you too can achieve greatness. We look forward to seeing you grow and succeed. - Value Friendship, Embrace Kindness
In life, no matter your status, friends are essential. Your university classmates will likely become your closest lifelong friends—the ones who share your joy, success, and challenges. - Cherish Life, Renew Yourself
As an old saying goes: “As heaven maintains vigor through movement, a gentleman should constantly strive for self-improvement.” You may not have scored high in exams, but that doesn’t define your life’s potential. Let past struggles shape your growth. Here at Shanghai Polytechnic, you have the chance to rebuild and redefine yourself.
And finally, I want to say: “As the waves stretch for thousands of miles, is there any riverbank where the moon does not shine?” Our moon shines just as brightly here. Over the next three years, may you become a person of integrity, learning, discipline, and purpose—a person with a promising future.
