Recently, the School of Communication and Electronic Engineering at Shanghai College of Science and Technology successfully held a drone skills training event, aimed at enhancing students’ technical abilities and expanding their understanding of drone applications.
The college invited the Drone Application Team from Shanghai Security Group to lead the training. Drawing on their extensive practical experience, the team introduced students to the fundamentals of drones, including types, structures, working principles, operation techniques, and flight safety protocols.
During the outdoor practice session, the team performed a live drone demonstration, showcasing key maneuvers such as takeoff, hovering, cruising, and landing, along with advanced flying techniques. Students observed closely and gained a more hands-on understanding of real-world drone operations. Under the team’s guidance, students then took the controls themselves—starting with basic exercises and gradually moving to more complex tasks, all under close supervision to ensure safety and accuracy.
At the same time, faculty members provided on-site coaching for the Intelligent Aerial Vehicle Application Competition. Teachers explained competition rules, requirements, and scoring criteria in detail, and shared practical strategies, key technologies, and innovative approaches through real-life examples. Students engaged in group discussions and hands-on practice, receiving one-on-one guidance to refine their projects.
Through this event, students not only learned how to operate drones but also deepened their understanding of drone-related competitions—laying a strong foundation for future contests and career development. The college plans to continue hosting similar activities and strengthening partnerships with industry experts to further boost students’ practical skills, innovation capacity, and industry readiness.
